AIRBORNE AND IMPACT ACOUSTICAL TEST
Laboratory Test Specimen (Intertek)
- ¾" hardwood floor finish
- Insulfloor’s SonoDeck
- 7/8’’ oriented strand board (OSB) subfloor
- Engineered wood joist system, 16’’ on-center
- R32 fibre glass insulation (embedded between joists)
- ½’’ metal resilient channels, 24’’ on-center
- Two layers of 5/8’’ Type ’X’ gypsum wall board
Test results in Laboratory (Intertek) on July 31th, 2019
Airborne sound STC 61 (Sound Transmission Class)
Impact sound IIC 63 (Impact Isolation Class)
The STC and IIC ratings are based on external laboratory testing results. These results are attained by using a combination of products with proper installation techniques and therefore cannot be used as a warranty. The manufacturer assumes no responsibility for any interpretation or inference that any person may make, or be held legally responsible due to lower attained ratings
SonoDeck vs Ligthweight concrete
For several years, manufacturers often muffle condominium floors with screed lightweight concrete cast on acoustic membranes. Lightweight concrete does not provide adequate support for nailing hardwood and after a few years, it tends to crack or even break down, which causes removal of the ceramic tiles. In addition, it requires specialized workers and relatively warm conditions to install. The SonoDeck panels eliminate these disadvantages as they can be installed easily during any temperature.
